Waterborne polyurethane adhesives exhibit excellent bonding performance and can be used for bonding or laminating various substrates, including plastic sheets and films such as PVC, PET, PP, ABS, and PE, as well as fabrics, nonwoven fabrics, paper, glass, and even for sewing traditional textiles. The thermal vacuum composite molding process developed this year has been widely adopted in the production of high-end furniture and automotive components.
(1) Wood processing—the largest application area for adhesives. Waterborne polyurethane, used as an adhesive, can bond with a variety of porous materials such as foam plastics, wood, leather, fabrics, paper, and ceramics, as well as with surfaces that are smooth and glossy, including metals, glass, rubber, and plastics.
(2) Applications in food packaging: In today’s food industry, various laminated composite films are commonly used to package foods, beverages, seasonings, and other products. Laminated composite films are made by bonding plastic film layers with other materials using adhesives.
(3) In the automotive industry, APUs are gradually replacing traditional adhesives—such as solvent-based or water-based chloroprene rubber, nitrile rubber, and solvent-based PU—used for bonding automotive components, dashboards, fenders, door panels, carpets, and headliners.
(4) Composite lamination and sculptural processing: Water-based polyurethane adhesives can be used to laminate and bond together plastic films and sheets made of polyvinyl chloride, polyester, ABS, corona-treated polyolefins, as well as cotton fabrics, synthetic fiber textiles, paper, and leather.
(5) Pressure-sensitive adhesives, particularly latex-based pressure-sensitive adhesives, are used to manufacture adhesive tapes, self-adhesive labels, and more. They can also be used directly and are widely applied in fields such as office supplies, construction, furniture, and vehicles.
(6) Electrostatically Conductive Emulsion Adhesive: In a vinyl acetate-acrylate emulsion, waterborne polyurethane and tackifying resins are added to enhance the performance of the emulsion adhesive. Conductive fibers are incorporated to impart electrostatic conductivity to the emulsion adhesive, resulting in the final product. This adhesive is primarily used for bonding electrostatically conductive semi-rigid PVC sheet flooring. It can also be applied in areas requiring electrostatic dissipation, such as large electronic instrument rooms, electronic manufacturing workshops, operating rooms, computer rooms, and other similar environments.
